Their Background
Certified engineering technicians and technologists typically come from an applied science or engineering background and have graduated from a certificate, diploma or degree program; completed at least two years of working experience in their chosen discipline; and have successfully completed a Professional Practice and Ethics examination.
The Words 'Engineer' and 'Engineering'
The words ‘Engineer’ and ‘Engineering’ have many different meanings throughout the world, and even within Canada. Those working in the applied science engineering field should be aware that, although they may use the word 'Engineer' as part of their job title, they may not necessarily qualify as a Professional Engineer or a Technology Professional in Canada. Anyone applying for certification through this web site who is found to be potentially eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer will be referred to the appropriate provincial association for Professional Engineers.
